The Trumpeter Swan Society
The Trumpeter Swan Society (TSS) was founded in 1968 as a non-profit organization. Early settlers were responsible for pushing this species towards extinction by the late 1800s but they have since made a recovery. Trumpeter swans are considered an indicator species as they thrive in healthy waterways and wetlands. Their presence means that the ecosystem can support plants and other animals.
TSS works to restore the natural breeding grounds of Trumpeter swans; promote research into the ecology of the species; to advance Trumpeter swan management, both in the wild and in human care, and to provide a platform for the sharing of knowledge on Trumpeter swans.
